New to this site?

November 2nd, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh
Welcome. Feel free to leave a comment. Notice right above the daily scripture in blog form. You can use this for your devotions and share thoughts with others.
If you are new to Grace or are curious about this church, you should check out the Vision 2007 message from LifeCurch.tv. We are partnered with LifeChurch as a network church and cool new things are happening.

What blogs do you read?

October 31st, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh
I am interested what kind of blogs you all read. Entertainment, news, opinion, fun and games, work….what do you read out there?
I like The NY Times bestseller, spinner, boingboing, Swerve, terrystorch.
There are 1000’s…what do you keep up with.
Also…do you like the new digging deeper blog at the Grace site?

Why do I blog?

October 29th, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh

First of all I blog to communicate in a way that is open and effective. Many people check this blog day by day (according to our web people). So I want to be in touch.

Several of you who are somewhat new to Grace have mentioned to me that this blog helps you to get in on what goes on at Grace.

Also, I like to blog because it gives an open way for you to respond and discuss things.

Do you read this blog? Do you have suggestions or topics you want addressed? Do you have other blogs you read?

This cool shot was taken early this week in campustown. What a Phaneroo- a vivid display of God Himself!

Phaneroo!

This is one of my favorite greek words…and it is the root word for the english word “manifestion” in the key verse for today, 1 Cor 12:7. Call me wierd but I just like the way it sounds. Phaneroo, phaneroo, phaneroo.

Its a larger than life word meaning to make visible or clear, to plainly reveal or show.

So in the verse it says “Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” Each one of us is a display of what God is and what the holy Spirit is up to. Each one of us is a display of God so that the goodness of God shine onto all around us.

Do you have an example of a phaneroo (an obvious display of the Holy Spirit in someones life today) you can share?

Vision 2007

October 24th, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh

When our team enthusiastically agreed to join the LifeChurch.tv network, we recognized that they had much of the same mission and values we have had at Grace since our start ten years ago. There are all kinds of resources out there and all kinds of groups. We have teamed up with a ministry that is right in line with us.
The Vision 2007 message is such a good summary of what LifeChurch is about. I would recommend to all at Grace to listen to it (at the Grace site) a couple times.

Give me some feedback on it!

Does Dave play free cell all day?

October 22nd, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh

My job has changed since we have networked with Lifechurch.tv. Some may wonder if I just sit around and contemplate my navel or think about what might have been with the cubs or play free cell. (Just for the record, I have never played a game of freecell in my life and would need a three week course to understand how to play!)

Anyway, I am busier than I have ever been before investing in lives. This fits with the vision I have had for ministry and it is one of the reasons LifeChurch offers their resources to developing churches: it frees leaders like me to invest in the ministry when staff and resources are in short supply.

Here is whats on my Top Ten list for October:

1.Evangelism/ Lead Generation

2.Small groups

3.Network and LifeChurch.tv transition

4.Jr High development

5.Finances

6.Lead Community- Board and Leads

7. Music team

8. First Impressions

9.Faclities

10. Equipment transition

Its alot of people contact work and I’m loving it.

Takeover!!!

October 17th, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh
Is LifeChurch.tv going to “take over” Grace Community at some point? No way…if we ever did relate to them in a new way or become a “United” church with then it would be by mutual agreement and would only happen if we fully embraced the idea.
Is there a plan or goal for us to become a LifeChurch.tv campus? No. We are a network church. This means we use their resources on a regular basis and agree to use them under certain guidelines. It may happen at some time, but it is not a target or objective for us or them.
Is it possible that we might become a LifeChurch.tv united campus in the future? Yes…it is possible. They like us and have an interest in the CU area. But their motivation and ours is to see the mission of reaching and building up people for Christ — not to have more LifeChurch campuses.
Am I, Dave, really excited about becoming a LifeChurch united site and just not saying it? No. But then again, I like this new partner alot because they are so encouraging and because we have so much common “ministry DNA” (like authenticity, relationship/small groups, focus on the gospel, centrality of the Bible, innovation, vision for the world starting right here right now, and on and on…). For a face up dose of their DNA, google swerve.lifechurch.tv and check out Craig’s blog the past few days, esp the one on the Bible yesterday.
May things progress in the relationship in the future? Sure…but don’t worry about a “takeover”. It will only happen by mutual consent.

Preparing for Battle

October 15th, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh

This morning I began using the personal devotions guide we had available yesterday called “Preparing for Battle”. The first line of the Eph 6 passage is “Be strong in the LORD…” and I want to be just that…to be able to “stand…stand…stand”.

So first it is “put on the belt of Truth”. The truth about the Father, the truth about Jesus, the truth about the Holy Spirit.

Wow…I need truth like this.

Any one else using this devotions guide this week?

We have company!

October 12th, 2007 by Dave Hensleigh
We are part of the LifeChurch.tv network. This was a decison made by our leadership community almost two months ago now.
This weekend a team will visit Grace from Aldersgate UMC in Ft Wayne. They are exploring becoming a network church and are coming to observe and learn from our experience.
Collaboration has been in my and our blood for the past 4 years and it is a powerful growing movement in Christianity now.
If you have a question about this network deal, post it here or give me a call. 369.9897
