Seems VERY odd to me. Reading this whole series of miracles, what I keep hearing in my head are these people's unspoken "Say what??" or "that's not what I asked" or "I don't get it" or "Wait, are we talking about the same thing?" or just "Huh??" (This seems to fit in very well with the "Idiot" concept yesterday which I can certainly identify with!)
-Peter explains there aren't any fish today. Jesus says go let down your nets. "Huh??"
-Peter is awestruck with Jesus's power and, naturally I think, is overwhelmed with his own unworthiness. Jesus responds "from now on you'll catch men". "Huh??"
-Jesus blesses Peter & Co. with their best catch ever and then wants them to leave it. "Huh, but you just...."
- the paralytic and his friends go to enormous lengths to get to Jesus to heal the paralytic. Jesus responds - "your sins are forgiven". "Huh??, wait, that's not quite ....."

These kind of seemingly irrelevant responses from Jesus occur throughout the gospels.
They occur throughout my conversations with God, too. "Huh??, Say again, I don't quite get it." And the only effective response from me needs to be just like Peter's response. "Because you say so", I'll do it. I don't have to understand, I just have to believe Jesus understands and knows what He is doing."
Thanks heavens I don't have to understand to follow.

Notice that Peter's first response is an honest assessment of his condition:
"Go away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!”

Then notice that what Jesus says is
“Don’t be afraid; from now on you will catch men.”

Does that seem odd? What do you think?
