I started out using the Holman Student Bible because it has some interesting discussion questions in addition to photos, paintings, and maps. I’ve recently switched, however, to the Literary Study Bible (ESV). As a lover of literature this is perfect for me, because the text is divided in a way that makes it ideal for daily reading; each book has its own introduction (listing characters, theological themes, motifs, etc.) and this edition also features footnotes with Greek and Hebrew terms. (different metaphor, same idea). Wow. The day this morning looks different if I look at it in light of the truth of all I know in God's word as opposed to what "might happen" randomly, just in life. There are several verses on the walls of my mind this a.m. that I need to return to during the day....Phil. 1:6, Jeremiah 29:11, Ps. 139, Roman 8:1-11, 2 Tim. 3:16, Eph. 2:10. All day, these will make a dismal beginning turn into a day of opportunity to honor God.
