Grace Community Church Write them on the walls of your heart.

Write them on the walls of your heart.

These words from Prov 7 came alive yesterday as Chris scrawled those wonderful words on that white wall yesterday. I came away from yesterday (and this whole txt series) wanting to write the word on the walls of my heart, the walls of my home, the walls of my computer, the walls of all of my life.
Anyone pushing forward with mastering the word and being mastered by it?

We had a good discussion in our small group last night on this very topic….downloading God’s word into our lives. (different metaphor, same idea). Wow. The day this morning looks different if I look at it in light of the truth of all I know in God’s word as opposed to what “might happen” randomly, just in life. There are several verses on the walls of my mind this a.m. that I need to return to during the day….Phil. 1:6, Jeremiah 29:11, Ps. 139, Roman 8:1-11, 2 Tim. 3:16, Eph. 2:10. All day, these will make a dismal beginning turn into a day of opportunity to honor God.

Julie D. and I are working closely together to try and master (and be mastered by) the Bible and in doing so I’ve come across some really interesting secondary texts in our study. I started out using the Holman Student Bible because it has some interesting discussion questions in addition to photos, paintings, and maps.

I’ve recently switched, however, to the Literary Study Bible (ESV). As a lover of literature this is perfect for me, because the text is divided in a way that makes it ideal for daily reading; each book has its own introduction (listing characters, theological themes, motifs, etc.) and this edition also features footnotes with Greek and Hebrew terms. I’ve listed the link below.

This second link is actually a PDF of the first 15 or so pages of the Literary Study Bible, in case you’re curious (it’s free!).

    Other texts I’m using:
The Oxford Guide to the Bible
    Holman Illustrated Pocket Bible Dictionary
    Nelson’s Compact Bible Handbook

I’m enjoying reading the Bible but I’ve found that it’s not enough for me to just “read” it. I love processing the information, turning it over in my mind and looking it from different schools of thought. I’ve also come across some fantastic study guides online that have also been a big help.
