I read once that shepherds would bring their sheep into the sheepfold at night from the fields. For safety, everyone's sheep were herded into one big fenced area. In the morning, the different shepherds would come and just by calling, their sheep would move towards their own shepherd. No need to go and find the sheep, they responded to the voice of their own shepherd and not to the other sheeps' shepherds.
Fascinating. Knowing that, it makes me want to listen very carefully to the right voice. That "still small voice" that is the Holy Spirit's voice in me that absolutely leads me to safety and holiness.
There are other voices calling, aren't there? But if I listen carefully, I will recognize the voice that I want to follow. And I can confidently know that my Shepherd loves me and will care for and protect me and lead me.

This morning I was all over "Thanksgiving" as I read and reread this:

16 I have other sheep that are not of this sheep pen. I must bring them also. They too will listen to my voice, and there shall be one flock and one shepherd.

I am so thankful that our savior did not get sidetracked with his needs being met or what time the Sunday service was. His deal was "I must bring them also" and he is referring to you and me...we are the "them".

I want to give my whole life to helping others live because of this good shepherd.
