Grace Board Meeting Highlights

September 19, 2006

The Grace Community Board includes Becky McNaught, Bill Glick, Judy Dalton and Dave Hensleigh.  Everyone was present and we had an energizing discussion about several topics:

-         KidStuf was excellent and looks to provide both support for Grace families and a wide open door to the community.  It cost us a lot to develop this and lots of people are involved.  The investment seems well worth it.

-         The “Small Group Strategy” and Dave’s recent messages were discussed.  We affirmed that we want to see this develop.

-         The Arts at Grace was discussed.  We have gotten overtures from Bright Lights Theater Company regarding use of our facilities and collaboration.  We wholeheartedly affirmed our interest in being a church that is a home for the arts in our community.

-         Dave gave an update on the development of a membership system.

-         We discussed our next meeting, agenda building and working over suggestions and ideas from Dave’s annual review.

-         Dave also reported that there is a developing financial problem

The next board meeting will be Tuesday, October 17, 6-8pm.

What to do at your first small group meeting

September 23rd, 2006 by Dave Hensleigh

First of all take heart that you are doing what Jesus talked about in Matt 18 when he nudged us to forge relationships in the “two or three” way.

Keep it simple and get to be friends. This is the most important aspect of a small group.

First time you get together try this:

Get acquainted with names, where you have come from, what you are doing now and why, etc by chosing two or three of these questions:

1. What is your full name and why were you given that name.

2. Where is your place of origin?

3. Tell us about your job.

Then take the scripture for the day from the Grace homepage  and follow these three steps;

1. Have someone read it out loud

2. Ask…”What is it saying?”

3. Discuss….”What is it saying to me today?” Be sure to invite and allow each one to say something.

Then have each one write on a note card their prayer request for their own life and hand it to the person next to them. Take a few minutes to simply pray for each other around the circle.

Close off in 45 mins if you can so that people can get to work or whatever.

Build a communication list and ask someone to pop around and email to keep everyone updated.

Repeat this weekly and GROW!
